Level up Your Linkedin

Author: Simon McGowan

LinkedIn has long been known as the networking platform where with the right connection, or being in the right place at the right time your dream career could be just a click away. But for some, instead of using the platform to find their career, they’ve harnessed the power of networking to build their empire so ti is important that you level up your Linkedin. Enter LinkedIn guru Joce Macdonald who we were lucky enough to sit down with and learn more about her years of experience dominating in the field of the world’s largest professional networking tool.

LinkedIn Guru Joce MacDonald shares her years of experience dominating in the field of the world’s largest professional networking tool.

“I am a seller by nature” begins Joce as she sits for a virtual chat looking polished to perfection. “I’ve been in sales for over 15 years, it’s a passion of mine. And since the pandemic, I think a lot of us have added multiple skills to our repertoire. But for me, I’ve really focused on being an online seller and what being remote as a seller means” she says. Joce has carved a glittering career from her expertise on LinkedIn and is recognized as the go-to person in her field.

“I feel that LinkedIn is not only the largest professional platform, but it’s also an outstanding platform to use for personal branding, building trust, building a network and really defining who you are online. My focus is helping people with LinkedIn strategies, and building trust online and networks” explains Joce.

Whilst LinkedIn has always been the go-toplatform for networking, Joce explains that the COVID-19 pandemic has made this valuable tool more opportune than ever. “People are open to new ways of doing business” she says. “If there’s a position out, if there’s a pivot, and you feel like you add value to an organization, you can position yourself, tell your story effectively, and have the ear of the decision-makers. People are open to creating places for you to come into their organization. It’s a very pliable time right now. It’s like the reset button has been pushed in a grand way and we have everyone’s attention. A lot of us have had the opportunity to step into a whole other boardroom that is global and it’s so exciting and so appropriate, and beautiful.”

Joce advises growing your community on LinkedIn can provide unparalleled prospects. “Personal branding, and the LinkedIn platform is something that people should be thinking about. There’s room for a lot of people to become influencers in their own right on LinkedIn, simply by being very specific on their goals of how they want to use the platform and who the community is that they’re speaking to. Define what you stand for” she muses wisely.

“You’ve probably heard people say: ‘Oh, I don’t use LinkedIn, my audience isn’t there.’ Awesome. That means you’re the first one there. So, let’s start today” she says. “We are all salespeople. Doctors are selling remedies, lawyers might be selling a verdict, teachers are selling a quality education.

“Make a list of five to seven keywords that back up where you are today in your profession, that supports your goals. Sprinkle those keywords throughout your profile and use them as hashtags. Think of a hashtag that’s unique only to you, so that you can create a little fishpond of people who follow you and think you’re interesting. Create a hashtag only for you so that you can build an active, engaged audience that supports you; support amplifies your message.

“Define that niche and stay in the trenches working on your craft”

Sagaciously, for parting words of wisdom, Joce concludes; “Define that niche and stay in the trenches working on your craft, and then one day, it’s not so hard anymore, because people believe you, because you’ve done the work.”

Jocelyn Macdonald bridges the gap between traditional sales and online marketing by extolling the virtues of LinkedIn as an essential tool for online sellers. Jocelyn uses LinkedIn to teach others how to build online trust and networks for sales success.
